Symptoms of Lorazepam overdose include:
sleepiness
dizziness
confusion
paradoxical reactions (hostility and aggression)
a slow heart beat
difficulty breathing
difficulty walking and talking
an appearance of being drunk
unconsciousness
death.
When taken as prescribed, Lorazepam is usually not fatal in overdose,
but may cause fatal respiratory depression if taken in overdose with
alcohol.
Early management of alert patients includes emetics, gastric lavage and
activated charcoal. Otherwise, management is by observation, including
of vital signs, support and - only if necessary, considering the
hazards of doing so - giving intravenous flumazenil.
To avoid overdose, a patient should strictly follow his/her doctor's
recommendations. Do not exceed the prescribed dosages of the
medications. The doctor or/and the patint's family should carefully
monitor his/her response to the treatment.
