The tablets are administered by mouth only and are taken with a full glass of water.

The injectable solution is available in ampoules containing 2mg or 4mg Lorazepam. Due to the fact that Lorazepam has poor water and lipid solubility, the solvents used in the ampoules are polyethylene glycol 400 and propylene glycol. Intravenous injections should be performed slowly and patients closely monitored for side-effects, such as respiratory depression, hypotension or loss of airway control.

Lorazepam 2mg is equal in effect to Diazepam 20mg. The half life of the medication is about 10 to 20 hours. A clinically relevant Lorazepam dose is effective during 6 to 12 hours, making it unsuitable for regular once-daily administration; it is therefore usually prescribed as two to four daily doses when given regularly. Peak effects occur ten minutes after intravenous injection, up to one hour after intramuscular injection and about 120 minutes after oral administration. The initial dosage of the drug should be determined by your physician.
